Women's Agenda

Women’s Agenda is an influential Australian news publishing platform focused on politics, business, leadership, tech and life from the perspective of professional women and female entrepreneurs.

A dynamic partnership

Women’s Agenda came to us in late 2016 looking to upgrade their existing site from a clunky and outdated Joomla site to a new streamlined design in WordPress. The project involved migrating over 7000 articles across between the platforms, as well as designing a new look and feel for the site.

4 years later, Editor Angela Priestley came back to us for a full refresh to continue engaging their digital audience at a high level. They needed a fast-loading content platform with a modern editorial look so that’s what we delivered – along with new functionality like video galleries, infinite scrolling on blog posts and different layout options for different news article categories.

Modern publishing

Female-led, Independent Journalism

Women’s Agenda is a purpose-led Australian online publisher and hub featuring daily news and views targeted at professional Women and Female entrepreneurs. Pixel Palace was engaged to create a richer online experience for both the Women’s Agenda reader and the publishing team.

To improve the experience of the reader, the new custom-designed and built WordPress website focused on strategically improving user engagement and usability through frontend speed and mobile-friendliness. To enable a more seamless publishing experience, backend editing was modernised through the implementation of Gutenberg and custom functionality for seamless publication.

Impactful UX/UI

Flexible Design Options

With news articles driving most of the traffic from referral sources, we gave particular design attention to these pages. We developed multiple layout styling options: a striking dark background with feature image blend for major impact news articles, options to include/exclude the sidebar and control image layout on posts and alternative hero section layouts for the homepage using custom Gutenberg blocks. This allowed editors to create the effect of featuring a highlight story and set the tone of an article based on colour and style.

Paid Membership Content

Women's Agenda Extra

Women’s Agenda wanted to build a membership platform for readers who wanted to support female-led journalism. We built a paid membership platform that enables subscribers to pay an annual subscription and then access exclusive content like videos, webinars and ebooks as well as news features that put women at the heart of the story.

Womens Agenda Membership Platform

Pixel Palace kept us informed the whole way through the project, sharing designs, communicating updates and answering our (oftentimes silly) questions – mostly over the phone as we’re based in Sydney. The finished project has transformed our business, and with Jen and the team on board was headache-free! Would highly recommend!
