Art vs science
What is UX design?
User Experience design is about considering the goals of specific users and carefully designing each and every part of a digital product to help them accomplish their goal. This often results in a more deliberate design process – it’s data-driven and backed by insights and research. User Experience designers are responsible for making websites easy (and enjoyable) to use. It’s about making people feel a certain way when they interact with your product.
A lack of UX design results in websites that are annoying, confusing or frustrating for people to use. Have you ever been on a website and asked yourself: Why is this form so long? Why on earth are these pages organised this way? Why can’t I find the damn menu on this restaurant website?
UX design is more of a science than an art. It’s not about merely decorating or making things look pretty – it’s about behaviour, psychology and results.
“Design is not just what it looks like and feels like. Design is how it works.”
– Steve Jobs
