Why should you invest in a logo?
In recent times the popularity of services like Fiverr and 99 Designs have seen a flood of cheaper logo design options hit the market. While this route is particularly appealing to startups and businesses on a budget, there are serious reasons why you think twice about this sort of option.
- Your logo needs to be unique – If you are going to invest time and energy in marketing your logo and building the brand behind it then you need to make sure you’re able to trademark it. A great logo design will be completely original and should be easily trademarked. Cheap logos are more often than not created from stock images and templates which will be rejected at trademarking. This leaves you open to someone being able to copy your logo with no legal recourse for you.
- Your logo needs to be flexible – It needs to work at different sizes, on different mediums and in black and white as well as colour. This takes serious thought and time to work out. Your designer should also supply the logo in multiple formats but most importantly in vector (eps or ai) so it can be scaled to any size. Cheap logo sites will usually only supply a jpg or png file which will seriously limit your usage options.
- Your logo needs to be thoughtfully designed – It should tell the story of your brand and add a personal element to your business. Great logo designers will use the logo as a clever way to quickly communicate your brand story, values or offer. Cheap logo sites will often just use a rehashed idea that’s been done to death in your industry meaning you have no ability to stand out or cut through the noise.
